An old reliable variety thought to be developed by Calvin Keeney. Calvin was the "father of the Stringless Bean" and bred Burpee's Stringless Green Pod in 1898. It was the most popular variety until Tendergreen arrived in 1925. Tendergreen produces a strong and erect bush that will reach about 18"-22"s. Pods are meaty, tender, round and stringless. Disease resistant, heat tolerant, early, heavy yields with an excellent flavor. There is a reason this bean has been around since 1925 and hasn't gone extinct! Tendergreen is an excellent canning and freezing type.
Bush beans do well in almost any garden as they are not too fussy about soil. To ensure the best flavor, Tendergreen Bush beans should be picked while still slender and no inner bean is well developed. For fresh Tendergreen Bush beans all summer, plant every two weeks and pick frequently.
They used to be called "string" beans because of the fibrous string that ran the length of the pods, but now with improved varieties, they are really "stringless " beans! The reason most gardeners prefer growing Bush beans to pole beans is because although they take up more space, they require less work planting, staking, weeding and watering, and Bush beans produce most of their crop all at once.
Seeds can be sown directly into garden when soil is warm. Bush type plant produces good yields of delicious stringless beans.
Excellent fresh or canned.
All seeds are packaged and for the current growing season.
